Could be better...
I've have both black and brown (3rd pair) in this style...immediately re-soled with Vibram's Tacomas. Carolina could have 'upped' the quality of both the bottoms as well as the uppers on the brown model rather than importing them. Not a very long break-in period - holds up really well when treated or oiled (helps the breaking in process) to keep the water out...more comfortable with aftermarket insoles. Uppers will crack if not oiled periodically but that's just the nature of leather.

The most uncomfortable pair of boots I've ever had
I work 8 to 12 hour days 5 days a week and I got these boots for this year's replacements. They seem strong, durable and I love the look of them. The first day I put them on they seemed fine But after a full day of with I just can't stand to wear them. Now wearing them a week to try to break them in with no prevail. I can only bear to wear them for a few hours then my feet are howling and I have to suffer the rest of the day with them. I absolutely wish I could send them back.

Not what they used to be
I had the same pair of boots in black about ten years ago. I still have them and they're awesome nice and broken in. The new pair are good but you can tell the difference. For example, the new pair are not made in USA, the quality just isn't there anymore. The vibram sole feels like it's made from a cheap plastic composite. Totally different from the old pair. I bought my old pair for nearly half the price and received a much better quality boot. I doubt I will repurchase this brand again. I should've bought red wings instead. They're still made in the good ole USA.

Decent boots
My last pair of boots were Carolinas, model #9821. They lasted me 2 seasons of tree work which I thought was pretty impressive considering the price (about $130). I decided to upgrade to a better climbing boot & ordered these a couple weeks back. They have the better outsole, the composite toe, which is nice & claim to have stronger shanks (im not gonna tear em apart to check lol). They dont seem to be made quite as well though. I already have a loose eyelet & they're not even broken in yet. No big deal but my 2 year old, beat up, worn out boots never had that problem. Overall they seem pretty decent but i guess only time will tell if i'll buy these again or go back to the old ones
